  Painted Easter Eggs

Categories:  Roumanian Recipes /

Red eggs are always there for Easter. This is the most important symbol of Resurrection of Jesus. For beginners, we will explain step by step the process of painting eggs, to make some beautiful eggs without any cracks or major color defects.
Christian tradition says that dyeing eggs has to be done in Maundy Thursday. Red eggs symbolize the sacrifice of Jesus for salvation of the world, and painting eggs for Easter is known throughout the Christian world. For romanian people this is an art ritual and is known for its decoration traditional techniques.
The local tradition says that if you wash your face on Easter Sunday, with the water where a red egg stood, you will be beautiful and healthy all year.
Ingredients:
-eggs
-egg-painting
-vinegar
-oil
First wash well each egg with warm water and dish soap, then rinse them well.
Put eggs in a large pot with plenty of cold water, add a pinch of salt and let them simmer on low heat. Eggs should be well covered by water and not too crowded.

Time for boiling eggs is calculated after water has boiled. If you want soft eggs boil 2 minutes, for mediu boil 5 minutes, if you want hard eggs boil10 minutes.
Meanwhile prepare the dye according to package instructions (adding 2 tablespoons of vinegar).
When eggs are done, put them in the paint (but still hot) and let them stay there for 5-6 minutes (or follow the instructions on the paint envelope).

Then you remove them on paper towels and let them dry.

Finally, lubricate each egg with a little oil to get a nice sheen.

Place Easter eggs on a platter.

Happy Easter!
Enjoy!
